WBWW is Looking for Local Seniors to Interview for Wolf Bay Environmental Heritage Project
We are looking for senior citizens that grew up and lived in the Wolf Bay area for most of their lives. We would like to interview them about the way they lived and what the Wolf Bay area used to look like. If you have a relative or know of someone that may be interested, please contact Liz Langston at lizlang@bellsouth.net or (850) 712-1137. We are also very interested in old photos of the area or news articles to scan and preserve. Some of these may appear in the final product.
This project will provide readers with insight into important conditions and local attitudes concerning the bay, creeks, and wildlife resources in the Wolf Bay watershed and surrounding areas. First-hand reports of the historical environmental health of the area and the traditional uses (and exploitation) of natural resources (including the forests, wildlife, aquatic life, and the land) will provide a greater understanding of existing conditions in the watershed. This will facilitate better planning for potential restoration and preservation activities, as well as for future uses of these resources and land. Planning for the future of Wolf Bay should include consideration of local traditional land and water resource uses and this project may make the information more accessible to local citizens, government agencies, and developers.
We envision distributing the oral history to schools, museums, local officials, libraries, civic groups, etc. We may be able to produce a booklet, film, Power Point presentation, and/or CD, and make them available on our Website.
We will be partnering with the Baldwin Co. Heritage Museum. We need volunteers to conduct interviews, scan and document items for preservation, type up interviews, etc. If you are interested or would like to make a donation to defray costs of this project, please contact Liz.
